What is a Colonoscopy?
A Colonoscopy procedure is done to examine the inner lining of the large intestine. A soft flexible tube with a camera on its tip, about the thickness of the index finger, is used for this examination. The examination will be performed with I.V. Anesthesia to make the experience comfortable and painless.
How do I prepare for a Colonoscopy?
For this procedure to be successful, the large intestine MUST be cleaned by using a series of laxatives, as instructed below. No medications should be taken on the day of the exam, unless instructed by our Gastroenterologist. Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, diabetes or blood pressure medicines may require special instructions from the physician. Since sedation will be used, an escort will required for going home. Please leave your valuables at home.
*IF YOU ARE TAKING ASPIRIN, PLAVIX, COUMADIN, INSULIN OR BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATIONS , PLEASE DISCUSS IT WITH THE DOCTOR.*
