Crash Cart Security And Accountability


 
POLICY:
 
Clinical personnel shall visually inspect the seal located on 
the crash cart at the beginning of each surgery day.
 
Any discrepancy (e.g., broken seal or missing seal) shall be 
reported to the Medical Director.  Clinical personnel shall 
inspect the medication drawer to determine if any of the 
medications were tampered with or are missing.
 
If necessary, clinical personnel will replace medication into 
the crash cart as soon as possible.  It will be sealed with a 
new lock by the facility staff.
 
PROCEDURE:
 
Only locks approved by the Medical Director/Governing body 
will be used to secure the possession of the seals.
 
The number on the seal lock will be tracked on the log sheet 
maintained by the clinical staff.
