Care and Handling of Contaminated Linen


 
PROCEDURE:
 
1.  Appropriate personal protective items shall be 
    utilized by staff when handling contaminated linen.
 
2.  Soiled linen shall be placed in designated bags and 
    removed to the linen storage area at regular intervals 
    during the working day.  Special attention is to be given
    to infectious linen.  Infected linen is 'Red Bagged' and
    labeled.  It should then be removed immediately to the
    storage area.
 
3.  Linen shall be picked up at least weekly for processing.
 
4.  Soiled storage area shall be cleaned routinely with 
    antimicrobacterial solution on a regular schedule; 
    special cleaning will be instituted upon occurrence 
    of an infectious contamination event.
